We invited Carol Topp to speak about the sticky issue of properly classifying paid teachers (independent contractors or employees) and what the dangers are for local home school groups, online co-operatives, academies, teachers, and families if they get it wrong when the IRS comes knocking on the door.
Who is the webinar for?
The need for this information runs the gamut from local home school groups and academy leaders that pay teachers, the teachers themselves so their client academies and local homeschool groups do not get into trouble, and families that take classes and want to be sure the world of classes open to home school families both local and online stays healthy.
We do not want to see the sad event of what happened to Landry Academy to ever happened again. Please be in prayer for the Landry family. They are incredibly good people and they thought they had it figured out. Had they been money grubbing, make a profit at all costs type of people, they probably would have had the cash reserves to transition from independent contractor classification to employee classification. They were not. They tried to keep the classes as affordable as they could and so they took only a tiny margin.
More about the presenter ...
Carol Topp, Homeschool CPA
Carol has been invited as a presenter to several HSLDA events. Even the day I called her to finalize the day and the time of this presentation they had called that morning. If HSLDA consider her the go to gal, she definitely knows her stuff.
